EPDM Rubber Roofing SystemsResidential & Commercial Low-Slope Roofing
Shingles are not designed for flat or low-slope roofs. For porches, garages, additions, and small commercial buildings, we install EPDM rubber membrane systems — a proven single-ply solution that stays flexible in freezing temperatures and stands up to New England weather.

Why Choose NorthForge for Rubber Roofing?
EPDM Rubber Membranes
We install EPDM rubber membranes, known for outstanding UV resistance and flexibility in freezing temperatures.
Primed & Taped Seams
Seams are bonded using structural primers and heavy-duty seam tape, creating a unified chemical seal.
Tapered Insulation Options
Where ponding is a concern, tapered insulation can be designed to direct water toward drains and gutters.
Low-Slope Edge Details
Custom metal edge profiles and drip edges redirect water cleanly off EPDM decks into gutters.
Commercial & Multifamily Low-Slope Roofing
We install and repair EPDM rubber roofing on small commercial properties throughout the area — retail buildings, offices, multifamily and apartment buildings, mixed-use properties, and garages. Services include low-slope roof replacement, leak investigation, flashing and penetration repairs, drainage evaluation, and preventive maintenance. Installed in accordance with applicable manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and local building codes.
Deep-Dive: Engineering EPDM Rubber for Low-Slope Sections
Flat roof additions, detached garages, and sunrooms represent a unique architectural challenge. Shingles require gravity to shed water. When shingles are laid on slopes less than 2:12, rain sits on the overlaps, capillary action pulls water backward, and freezing snow melt creates leaks. The right solution is a seamless, single-ply membrane system, and EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a proven standard.
EPDM is a synthetic rubber compound that retains its flexibility in freezing temperatures, resists UV damage, and does not crack or tear under normal thermal expansion. EPDM systems are sensitive to installation errors: if seams are not primed properly or sheets are stretched during laydown, seams can pull apart over time. We apply a structural solvent-based primer to all seams before sealing them with double-sided seam tape. Installed in accordance with applicable manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and local building codes.
Every low-slope roof is different. Insulation and cover-board options are selected based on the existing roof assembly, drainage needs, project specifications, applicable energy requirements, manufacturer specifications, and local building codes. Where ponding is a concern, tapered insulation can be designed to direct water toward drains and gutters.
System Characteristics & Metrics
How We Execute Rubber Roofing
Our rigorous, step-by-step installation process ensures quality that lasts.
Substrate Stripping & Inspection
We tear down old flat roofing layers to expose the framing joists, checking for rot and structural sag.
Insulation & Slope Design
We anchor rigid insulation boards, with tapered configurations where drainage requires it.
EPDM Bond & Roll
We sweep the board clean, apply bonding adhesive, roll out EPDM rubber sheets, and roll seams with primed seam tape.
Term Bar & Seal Check
We anchor termination bars at walls and chimneys, apply water-cut-off sealant, and run a seam check.
Premium Components We Install
We install quality roofing and siding products from trusted manufacturers, based on the needs, design, and specifications of each project.
